Tou Chih-kang

I read this article a few days ago about Taiwanese photographer Tou Chih-kang. It was probably the saddest article I've ever read relating to photography. Chih-kang has been setting up a makeshift studios in animal shelters in Taiwan to photograph dogs moments before they are scheduled to be put down by lethal injection.  From what I can tell they are beautiful and heart wrenchingly sad portraits of an animal's last moments alive. He is making these pictures to bring attention to our responsibility towards the care and population control of our pets. You can read the details and see more photos by clicking here.
Although he is working in Taiwan, I couldn't help but think of the staggering numbers of dogs and cats abused and put down every day in America as well. It has made me want to do something to help. Through a series of events in my life and after reading about Tou Chih-kang, I put a plan into action yesterday. I will save the rest of the story for tomorrow.
